Who is Abdul Awil ?
A man who beat and r^ped a woman while forbidding her to eat or drink and locked her in a room for four days has been jailed for 22 years.
Abdul Awil abused the victim between approximately September 28 and October 1 of last year, at a property in Kensington, west London.
The 29-year-old was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Friday.
Detectives said Awil “took advantage of a vulnerable woman who trusted him and subjected her to such violence that no human being should have to endure.”
The victim, who was known to Awil, recounted how he had forbidden her to eat or drink and repeatedly assaulted her, rendering her unconscious.
Police said Awil subjected the woman to violence that “no human being should have to endure.”
She eventually escaped and sought refuge in the home of a relative, where an ambulance was called .
In August, Awil, of Rainville Road, Fulham, was convicted of intentional serious bodily injury, false imprisonment and two counts of r^pe.
Yesterday (December 10) Awil was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court, where he was imprisoned for a total of 22 years.
He was also issued a lifetime restraining order against the victim.
“The victim has shown immense courage in coming forward and we hope that he will find some comfort in the sentence handed down.
“ I urge all victims to speak to us. We have specially trained officers who work closely with partner organizations to provide appropriate support.
“Please do not suffer in silence; we are here to help and will do everything we can to pursue prosecutions and achieve justice.”
