A man who attacked his neighbor with an electric drill in a nightly DIY discussion was jailed.

Officers were called to an address in Essex after a man was reportedly attacked with an electric drill.

When they arrived, officers found a man, Eddie Achunche, 45, who was still holding the drill .

They discovered that Achunche had been confronted by the victim that he was unhappy because he had been drilling late the night before.

Witnesses told officers that they saw the discussion and then saw the aftermath where the victim lay on the ground with Achunche standing next to him with the drill in hand.

The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered severe head and face injuries, and the drill was found to have penetrated 5 cm into his brain.

Police were called to a home in Harlow, Essex, around 1:00 p.m. M. From August 3 of last year, with reports that a man had been attacked with an electric drill.

When officers arrived, they found Eddie Achunche, 45, with the drill still in hand.

Achunche had attacked the victim after he was confronted by his nighttime drilling the night before that had kept residents awake on the street.

Witnesses described seeing the discussion before seeing the victim lying on the ground with Achunche ‘standing on him’ with the drill.

The victim, a man in his 30s, sustained serious head and face injuries, and doctors discovered that the drill had penetrated 5 cm into his brain.

Achunche claimed that he was acting in self-defense and that he had not intended to hurt anyone, but he was arrested and charged.

Following a trial in Chelmsford Crown Court, he was found guilty of unintentionally causing serious bodily injury, but was acquitted of the most serious GBH offense with intent.

In the same court, on Friday, October 22, he was imprisoned for four years and six months.

Investigating Detective Alana McCreath, of Harlow CID, said: ‘This was a brutal attack that resulted in life-changing injuries to the victim.

‘It is unimaginable to use a power drill against another person but Eddie Achunche did just this.

‘The victim will have to live with the consequences of Achunche’s actions for the rest of his life.

‘Achunche has shown little remorse for his actions and instead tried to convince officers he was just acting in self defence.

‘Fortunately we, and the jury, were able to see through this and he will now spend the foreseeable future in prison.

‘I want to praise the courage of the victim and the support from his family.

‘He will have to live with the consequences of Achunche’s actions for the rest of his life and has show incredible bravery throughout the investigation and court process.’
