16-year-old foreign exchange student victim of hit and run in Coweta County

According to Wilkes, the students there stayed with Rey before he found himself in love with Grady.

“Our students are writing letters and preparing care packages for him. We want to be there for him in his recovery, even though he is a foreign exchange student, he is part of our family,” she said.

According to a report from the Georgia State Patrol, Rey was riding his bike Tuesday night when a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, struck the 16-year-old and another car before the driver took off.

Rey’s injuries were traumatic, but Wilkes wants him to know that he is not alone.

“As a school, that’s our biggest thought, to join him,” he said.

Rey just started at Northgate earlier in the year, so the school doesn’t even have a photo of him to share yet.

His family will fly from France on Thursday night, and Wilkes said the students want to show them how much they care for Rey.

“Last week at the soccer game, they had considered him our good luck charm because we kept working overtime. I met him before, he is a joy and he is very bright. He has that energy and has made many new friends.” . because of his personality, “he said.

She says that everyone at Northgate hopes Rey can heal and end the year.

Police said they have no clues yet as to who the driver of the car was. But the dark-colored sedan will likely have extensive front end damage and would have been driving on GA 34 just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
