Arrested and charged

Australian cricketer great Michael Slater has been arrested for an alleged incident of domestic harassment. The cricket commentator was recently fired from his job at Channel Seven following a public attack on Scott Morrison on Twitter.

In May, he controversially accused the prime minister of having “blood on his hands” for closing the border to Australians trapped in Covid-ravaged India. The retired opening batsman told the prime minister in a series of tweets to get on his private jet and “come and witness the corpses on the street.”

“It is amazing to bring out the prime minister on an issue that is a human crisis. The panic, the fear of all Australians in India is real !! How about you take your private jet and come to witness the corpses on the street?

Many have blamed Slater’s behavior on social media for costing him his job on Channel 7, causing his 20-year career as a cricket broadcaster to come to a complete halt. Speaking after the incident, the former hitter said that he was “completely overwhelmed” and that he did not pretend to be “disrespectful.”

“The tweets came from a place of sheer despair and wanting to go home with crying children worried about their father,” Slater told The Courier Mail earlier this month. “He got very excited. We got to Ahmedabad and passed a Covid testing site. We saw all these dead bodies on the side of the road. I had never seen anything like this in my life. It was such a horrible confrontation.

“If I had my time again, considering that I could have had a link with what just happened to me on Channel 7, no, I would not do it again.”

Slater, who worked as a commentator for the IPL, had been a fierce critic of Australia’s policy prohibiting its citizens in India from returning home.

Slater had played 74 tryouts for Australia between 1993 and 2001. Slater is seen with fellow cricket star Michael Clarke
Two years ago, Slater was fired from a flight after an argument with two friends. He was boarding a Qantas flight from Sydney to Wagga Wagga when he engaged in a heated exchange with the two women he was traveling with.

He then reportedly locked himself in the plane’s bathroom, causing a delay in takeoff, before abandoning the flight. Slater joined Seven in 2018 after leaving Channel Nine.

The cricketer starred for Australia in 74 events during his extensive career from 1993 to 2001.
